A Classic 4 day ski/splitboard mountaineering traverse through the heart of North Cascades National Park, and over many glaciers.
This traverse has become more and more popular over the years, and for good reason. It really gets into the heart of the North Cascades, passing over a number of amazing glaciers, and allows for some incredible ski descents along the way. I first did the traverse in 2012, and at the time we were probably only the third of fourth party to complete it.
We start with a steep climb up towards Eldorado, making camp somewhere above treeline the first night. Then we can attempt to ski the East face of Eldorado Peak, before continuing over a few cols the north and west, eventually making a looong descent of some incredible north facing slopes into McCallister Cirque. We’ll make camp at the lowest elevation of the traverse this night, in the beautiful subalpine zone. The third day we’ll continue traveling north, slowly gaining elevation towards Isolation Peak. A few options exist for the descent, but we’ll continue heading north, towards the Neve Glacier and surrounding peaks. We’ll ski the beautiful open Neve Glacier, and make camp somewhere between here and the Colonial Glacier. Day four - the last day, we will pass though one more col then drop into the Colonial Glacier, a traversing climb will bring us to the eastern shoulder of Pyramid Peak, then its all downhill through the large old growth forest, and eventually the trail to the vehicle near Diablo Lake.
Limited to 3 guests. Participants should be advanced skiers or splitboarders and able to travel over arduous terrain with a heavy pack. Fill out the registration form for more details and to discuss joining me on this amazing adventure!
